Reasons from Aguenaou Ilias
I always wanted to explore other countries particularly Asians and learn about their culture, societies and economy. By pursuing a PhD in China, it will widen my knowledge and strengthen my resilience and provide me new opportunities for my career. I just finished my master degree in global business management in Rennes School of Business, in France.
I also have a bachelor degree in business and management from the International University of Rabat in Morocco. The fact that I am only 23 years old, Allows me to still realize my dream, and go to Asia, to China in order to understand more the local culture. This doctoral degree in international trade in China, will complement my knowledge and experience in the area of business and economy; thus allowing me to explore further opportunities for partnership and collaboration and to understand in depth the structure of the Chinese economy.
Being Moroccan and having spent few years in China will allow me to enrich my knowledge and change my way of thinking, I will be able to identify and enabling environment for doing business between Morocco and China.
My career plan would be to contribute to the Moroccan socioeconomic development by sharing my Chinese experience with many national stakeholders and facilitate cooperation between Morocco and China. I hope I would be able to create opportunities to Moroccan entrepreneurs, and allow them to grow by learning from the knowledge I will acquire, in order to create new jobs for young Moroccans. On another hand, knowing the potential of the Moroccan economy, I will be able to identify economic areas that have the potential to attract Chinese investors to develop Moroccan markets and enhance job opportunities for sustainable growth of the Moroccan economy. In addition, I would like to sustain my link to China and to the network of friends and professionals that I will have the opportunity to meet and work with them.
One way for reaching my objective would be the possibility to join the Moroccan Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy to share my experience with my compatriots and advise on opportunities to build partnership in the industrial and economic sector. I will offer to be the liaison officer or the focal person to facilitate negotiations and dialogue between the two countries, taking into account my knowledge and experience in both countries.
As a second alternative, I will also be available to explore possibilities to integrate major Moroccan industries in different areas such as electronics, automotive, textile, chemistry and many others and offer my experience, my knowledge acquired in China.
If in the future, there is a possibility of teaching in Moroccan universities, I will try to recreate and adapt the teaching model I have been taught in a Chinese university and I will advice the youth to enhance their knowledge towards the Chinese model.
I will also take the opportunity of the Moroccan efforts in strengthening south cooperation with many African countries to seek potential opportunities for trilateral cooperation between Morocco, China and African countries particularly French speaking countries.
Regarding my research plan, I will try to identify important trade possibilities between China and Morocco. China has many different opportunities to seize in the Moroccan market. Morocco is known nowadays as the most politic and economic stable country in North Africa. This enables Chinese investors to encounter less risks of investment in this market. In addition, The Moroccan government has adopted several strategies to encourage foreign investors to invest in this country through the contribution of the state in certain industrial sectors and by adapting themselves to foreign investor’s standards.
Morocco possesses a Geo-strategic location, which has access on the Atlantic sea and the Mediterranean Sea. This enables openness on Europe and America. Moreover, Morocco maintains good relationships which different African countries, which can be profitable for Chinese multinationals as a gateway to the African continent.
Labor cost in Morocco is quite low, According to the CNSS (2017), the monthly average salary is 2568.84 Dirhams. As it is a country in development, It has many Economic Sectors in development, where Chinese companies can take advantage Such as the Energy sector, Industrial sectors and Agricultural Sector.
Morocco from its side can benefit from creation of new employment. This can boost the Moroccan Economy growth. Furthermore, through the implementation of new Chinese companies the Moroccan workforce can benefit from a transfer in Knowledge and skills. Moroccan companies in Joint ventures can also benefit from a transfer of technology but also inspire itself from China’s organizational cultures, structures and discipline.
According to the financial times China has a part of 3.9% in the total foreign investment received in Morocco. How can China exploit more opportunities in Morocco and increase its part of investment in our country, as well as its investment in Africa?
The study will be composed of first a comparative analysis Between the Moroccan economical structure and the Chinese one. This will enable to spot the similarities and differences between both economic Models. A Moroccan framework analysis will be made through the analysis of different aspects of the market; to spot the real opportunities were China could expand itself.
Then the study will analyze the current investments that China is undertaking to Morocco and understand why some investment are not taken into account because of the European hub phenomenon. Through this data analysis we will be able to establish a consistent and realistic strategy for China to reach its full investment potential in the Moroccan economy and of course to contribute to an important growth of Morocco’s development. It will then allow the creation of a strong bilateral strategic partnership model.
